من النيل إلى الأبدية.. رحلة القوارب في مصر القديمة
هل تخيلتم يوماً كيف كانت تبحر السفن في قلب النيل قبل آلاف السنين؟ ضمن معرضنا المؤقت “النيل نبض الحضارة المصرية”، نصحبكم في رحلة لاستكشاف “قوارب النيل” التي لم تكن مجرد وسيلة انتقال، بل كانت عصب الحياة اليومية والروحية للمصري القديم.
بدأت الحكاية بقوارب بسيطة مصنوعة من حزم نبات البردي للصيد والرحلات القصيرة، ثم تطورت إلى سفن خشبية ضخمة من أخشاب السنط والأرز. المذهل أنها كانت تُصنع ببراعة هندسية عبر ربط الألواح بالحبال بدلاً من المسامير، لتبحر بالأشرعة والمجاديف في مهام التجارة، والدفاع، وحتى الرحلات الجنائزية نحو الحياة الأخرى.
يستعرض المعرض نموذجين فريدين يجسدان هذا التطور:
1️⃣ نموذج لقارب خشبي ملون: يصور بدقة مذهلة طاقماً مكوناً من 8 مجدفين، مع مراقب وربان يوجه السفينة.
(عصر الدولة الوسطى – منطقة مير – خشب ملون).
2️⃣ نموذج لقارب مصنوع من البردي: يمثل الجذور الأولى لصناعة القوارب في مصر وأقدم أشكال الملاحة النيلية.

From the Nile to Eternity.. The Journey of Boats in Ancient Egypt
Have you ever imagined how ships sailed the heart of the Nile thousands of years ago? Within our temporary exhibition, “The Nile: The Pulse of Egyptian Civilization,” we take you on a journey to explore the “Nile Boats”—which were far more than mere transport; they were the lifeline of both daily and spiritual life for the ancient Egyptians.
The story began with simple skiffs made from papyrus bundles used for fishing and short trips. Over time, these evolved into massive wooden vessels crafted from local acacia or imported cedar. Remarkably, they were engineered with brilliance, using ropes to lash the planks together instead of nails. Powered by sails and oars, these ships were essential for trade, warfare, and sacred funerary pilgrimages to the afterlife.
The exhibition features two unique models embodying this evolution:
1️⃣ Polychrome Wooden Boat Model: Exquisitely depicting a crew of eight rowers, along with a lookout and a helmsman steering the vessel.
(Middle Kingdom – Meir – Painted Wood; JE 42855).
2️⃣ Papyrus Boat Model: Representing the earliest roots of boat-making in Egypt and the most ancient forms of Nile navigation.
(Papyrus; Temp No. 31/12/21/5).
We invite you to visit the exhibition to uncover the secrets of ancient Egyptian navigation and see how they mastered nature to build a civilization where the sun never sets.
