From the sayings of the Prophet Peace be upon him
Written by Dr. Mohamed Barakat
Praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the one who was sent as a mercy to the worlds, our master Muhammad and all his family and companions, and after:
This supplication was mentioned in an authentic hadith on the authority of Anas bin Malik, may God be pleased with him, who said: The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to Fatima, may God be pleased with her:
(What prevents you from hearing what I command you, or saying when morning and evening: O lively O Qayyum with your mercy I seek help, set right all my affairs for me, and do not leave me to myself for the blink of an eye)
Narrated by Al-Nasa’i in “Al-Sunan Al-Kubra” (6/147) and in “Amal Al-Youm and Al-Laila” (p. / 46), Al-Hakim in “Al-Mustadrak” (1/730), Al-Bayhaqi in “Asma’ and As-Safat” (112), and others. His wording in some narrations is: (To say when you wake up and in the evening).
Al-Mundhiri said in Al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb (1/313): Its chain of transmission is saheeh. And Sheikh Al-Albani said in Al-Silsilah Al-Saheehah (No./227): Its chain of transmission is hasan.
This was reported to pray, word little like mentioned here, from the hadeeth of Abu reel may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace be upon him said: (calls for distressed Oh mercy, I hope you do not leave me depend on myself blink of an eye Fix me all of my no god but You).
Narrated by Ahmad (27898), Abu Dawood (5090), and classed as hasan by Al-Albani in Sahih Al-Jami’ (3388).
The one who meditates on this noble supplication will find it one of the greatest supplications that includes the fulfillment of servitude to God, Lord of the worlds, and it includes supplication to God Almighty with His Names and Attributes, for He is Glorified, the Living, the Sustaining, the Most Merciful. Perhaps he will obtain from her what makes him happy in this world and in the hereafter.
Then he asks God Almighty for the correctness of matters and conditions, and He says: (Perform for me all of my affairs) meaning: all my affairs: in my house, my family, my neighbors, my friends, my work, my studies, my soul, my heart, and my health… in everything that pertains to me. Oh Lord of goodness and wellness my luck and my share.
And all of that is from the grace of God Almighty, and not by virtue of the servant’s entitlement or honor, and that is why the conclusion of the supplication came with acknowledgment of complete poverty to Him, Glory be to Him, and complete surrender to His riches, the Mighty and Sublime. Wellness always accompanied me, and I mean by your strength and ability, for whoever trusts in God will suffice him, and whoever seeks help from God will help him, and the servant is indispensable to God for the blink of an eye.
That is why one of his supplications was: (Reform me all of my affairs, and do not leave me to myself for the blink of an eye, or to any of your creation), and he used to pray: O turner of hearts, make my heart firm on your religion.
He knows that his heart is in the hands of the Most Merciful, the Mighty and Sublime, and he does not possess anything of it, and that God, Glory be to Him, disposes of it as He wills, how is He reciting the Almighty’s saying:
His necessity to his Lord and his superiority to Him is according to his knowledge of Him, his closeness to Him, and his rank with Him.
“The Two Hijrah Road” (25-26).
Al-Manawi, may God have mercy on him, said, explaining the second narration, the supplication of the distressed: “And whoever testifies to God of monotheism and majesty with the gathering of determination and presence of mind, then it is incumbent upon the cessation of distress in this world and mercy and elevation of ranks in the afterlife.”
Fayd al-Qadeer (3/526).
